Representing Women and Girls in Marin County Since 1974

About the Marin Women's Commission

Our Work

The Marin Women’s Commission advances gender equity by elevating voices, informing policy, and improving outcomes for women and girls across Marin County.

Amplify the Voices of Women and Girls

We elevate women’s and girls’ voices, leadership, and lived experiences.

  • Support and co-sponsor the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame, honoring women whose leadership and impact have helped shape Marin County and inspired future generations.
  • Host the annual Marin Teen Girls Conference, a day dedicated to empowerment, skills-building, and community connection for teen girls across Marin.
  • Highlight diverse role models and leadership through public recognition and community partnerships.

Study Issues Impacting Gender Equity

We conduct research and analyze data to understand and respond to issues affecting women’s safety, health, and economic security.

  • Commission studies and historical reports have examined topics including gender-based violence, economic insecurity, and access to services for women and girls in Marin.
  • Our work has included reviewing how sexual assault response services are organized locally to support survivors and inform improvements.

Educate the Community and Share Information

We provide accurate and timely information to the public and our partners.

  • We share resource guides, crisis hotlines, and support information — including for issues like safety, housing, and health services — through our website and events. View the Community Resources for Women & Families.
  • Participate in public forums, panels, and community conversations on topics impacting gender equity and safety.
  • Connect residents to trusted local partners providing services, referrals, and support.

Advise the Marin County Board of Supervisors

We serve as an official advisory body to the Marin County Board of Supervisors, bringing a gender equity lens into local policymaking and programs.

Recommend Policy and Program Improvements

We advocate for policies and program changes that strengthen equity and safety in Marin County.

  • Recommend enhancements to county services and public systems — including continued advocacy for trauma-informed sexual assault services and expanded prevention efforts.
  • Advocate for policy changes that improve economic opportunity, access to healthcare, and support for families.
